Cat's Claw - Valuable Vine of the Amazon

Cat's Claw (Uncaria tomentosa)  is so-named because of its hook-like thorns resembling the claws of a cat. Its roots and bark contain potent phytochemicals that made this vine popular in South American traditional medicine. Indigenous people used it for its anti-inflammatory properties, immune system support and gastrointestinal support1. It was popular as an immune booster and regarded as very effective in promoting the healing of wounds. Multiple scientific studies in more recent years have looked into the traditional uses of this powerful herb and confirmed its potential health benefits.

Native to the Amazon rainforest, Cat's Claw is found in many tropical regions in South and Central America. It is a climbing, woody vine that can grow up to 100 feet (30 meters) long and easily attaches itself to the bark of trees with the claw-like thorns at the base of its leaves.
