Blackcurrants (Ribes nigrum L.)  are a very good source of Vitamin C and manganese, a good source of iron and potassium, and also contain magnesium and phosphorus.

Blackcurrants contain four times the amount of Vitamin C as oranges and double the amount of antioxidants as blueberries. The presence of many polyphenol antioxidants, like anthocyanins, are responsible for the rich color of the berries and possible free-radical scavenging properties.

The seeds of the Blackcurrant are an especially important part of this nutritious fruit, being rich in essential fatty acids including gamma-linolenic acid - a rare essential Omega-6 fatty acid which may be helpful in promoting cardiovascular health and maintaining normal blood pressure levels.*
