The Graviola tree (Annona muricata), also known as soursop and custard apple, is a small evergreen tree native to Central America and the Caribbean that is now also grown in tropical and subtropical climates throughout the world. Known mostly for its edible fruits, the glossy dark green leaves are also consumed.
Leaves from the graviola tree are rich in several bioactive compounds including alkaloids (like annonamine), flavonoids, saponins, tannins, annonaceous acetogenins, isoquinoline and phytosterols, as well as many essential oils, mainly sesquiterpenes derivates.
